HEAT TREATMENT DIVISION
Our Services
Comprehensive heat treatment solutions tailored to the most
demanding industrial applications.
Pre-Heating
THERMOTEST provides controlled electrical pre-heat and concurrent heating solutions for metals with substantial thickness, complex geometry, critical processes, or exotic alloy content.
Pre-heating before and during welding is essential to reduce internal stresses, moisture, and thermal shock — helping to prevent costly repairs and ensuring high-quality welds.
Our on-site team delivers precise monitoring and accurate control of individual heating zones up to 75mm on either side of the weld, guaranteeing total temperature uniformity within inter-pass limits.
- Uniform expansion of the workpiece
- Reduced concentrated stresses in the heat-affected zone
- Lower moisture content to prevent hydrogen-induced cracking
- Elimination of thermal shock, reducing under-bead cracking
- Temperature record charts provided for every application
Electrical Resistance Localized PWHT
Electrical PWHT uses low-voltage ceramic heating elements applied directly to workpieces or piping. With THERMOTEST's advanced control equipment, temperatures are carefully monitored to ensure consistent heating throughout the process.
For thicker materials, internal seams, vessels, or furnace applications, high-voltage elements are used to achieve even heat distribution.
Within the region, THERMOTEST provides up to 2.1 megawatts of installed heating capacity, ensuring reliable performance for even the most demanding PWHT operations.
Gas Fired Methods of PWHT
High-velocity gas burners (6 million Btu) are used for heat treating large structures, vessels, spheres, fabrications, and furnace applications. The gas firing equipment is equally effective for internal heating as it is for external furnace applications.
When combined with high-velocity combustion air, the burner system achieves precise control with a turndown ratio of 50:1 and can operate with up to 3000% excess air.
THERMOTEST personnel have carried out some of the largest gas firing operations in the world, including the in-situ firing of 50-metre bullet tanks for Shell Malaysia.
Temporary Furnace Techniques
THERMOTEST has the equipment and expertise to quickly mobilize temporary furnace panels to your site for furnace heat treatments of large structures, vessels and piping.
These furnaces can be powered using gas burners or high-voltage heating elements, depending on the project requirements.
Our temporary furnaces can be custom-built to nearly any size and are capable of operating at temperatures up to 1040°C, providing flexible, reliable, and efficient on-site solutions.
Furnace Heat Treatments
We offer furnace-based post weld heat treatment (PWHT) services to enhance the quality, safety, and performance of welded components.
Using controlled furnace heating and cooling, PWHT relieves residual stresses, improves material properties, and reduces the risk of cracking or distortion.
Our process ensures uniform temperature control and compliance with applicable industry standards, making it ideal for pressure vessels, piping, and critical fabrication work.
Refractory Dry-Out & Curing
THERMOTEST provides dry-out and refractory curing solutions using our high-velocity gas burner systems. These systems ensure accurate and uniform temperature control while delivering the added benefit of heating by convection.
The technique removes moisture from the refractory through the scrubbing action of the burner products, without baking or damaging the outer surface.
Refractory curing can be carried out at temperatures up to 1300°C, with temperature increments as low as 2°C per hour when required. Typical applications include Glass Float Furnaces, Cyclones, Reactors, Stacks, and Waste Heat Recovery Units.
